Bear (Mosom Maskwa) est un Cri des plaines\/Wolastoqiyik qui oeuvre depuis vingt-cinq ans dans le domaine des arts visuels. Il a re\u00e7u une formation en arts au New Brunswick College of Craft and Design et a non seulement obtenu son dipl\u00f4me avec Honneurs, mais est aussi le premier finissant autochtone \u00e0 \u00eatre issu de cette institution. Il a \u00e9tudi\u00e9 au <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Saskatchewan Indian Federated College<\/span> (maintenant appel\u00e9 \u201c The First Nations University of Canada\u201d) au d\u00e9partement des arts Autochtone et a ensuite poursuivit ses \u00e9tudes au Nova Scotia College of Art and Design, \u00e0 Halifax NE. Il d\u00e9tient son Baccalaur\u00e9at en \u00e9ducation de l\u2019 University of New Brunswick et a mit deux ans d\u2019\u00e9tudes au cycle sup\u00e9rieur en \u00e9tudes critiques \u00e0 ce m\u00eame endroit.<\/p>\n<p>Il est Professeur certifi\u00e9 au Nouveau-Brunswick o\u00f9 il a enseign\u00e9 l\u2019art autochtone au Fredericton High School pendant dix ans et a \u00e9t\u00e9 Directeur de l\u2019\u00e9ducation pour Ekpahaq Premi\u00e8re nation pendant encore dix ans.\u00a0 Il a pr\u00e9sid\u00e9 le d\u00e9veloppement du projet de site web Mus\u00e9e du Nouveau-Brunswick Koluskap \u2018Wolastoqiyik\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>Tout au long de son parcours, Bear a maintenue sa pratique artistique. Il a particip\u00e9 en solo ou en exposition de groupes \u00e0 de nombreux festivals r\u00e9gionaux, nationaux et internationaux. Que ce soit par ses masques sculpt\u00e9s \u00e0 la main ou par les silhouettes de marbre et de calcaire, son art se concentre sur une interpr\u00e9tation contemporaine\u00a0 de la tradition spirituelle Autochtone.<\/p>\n<p>En 2006, le Smithsonian Institute de New York, NY lui octroya un poste d\u2019enseignant-chercheur. Ned a aussi \u00e9t\u00e9 choisit en 2007 comme r\u00e9c\u00e9piendaire pour le Gibraltar International Artist Residency \u00e0 Toronto Island, Ontario. Il a fait parti d\u2019un projet collaboratif de sculpture publique lors des olympiques d\u2019hiver en 2010 \u00e0 Whistler, CB et tout r\u00e9cemment, a propos\u00e9 une exposition solo d\u2019une dur\u00e9e de quatre mois au Art Gallery Nova Scotia, Halifax NE, Mosom Maskwa: Pawakan<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.pawakan.com\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">http:\/\/www.pawakan.com<\/span><\/a>[\/wpcol_1half]<br \/>\n[wpcol_1half_end id=\u00a0\u00bb\u00a0\u00bb class=\u00a0\u00bb\u00a0\u00bb style=\u00a0\u00bb\u00a0\u00bb]<em><strong>Pawakan<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>\u2026une sculpture fait \u00e0 m\u00eame un arbre vivant \u00ab\u00a0pawakan\u00a0\u00bb (spirit guide)..tous les oeuvres de Pawakan connaissent le nom\/titre secret qui leur est exclusif selon le lieu et le propri\u00e9taire.\u00a0 Les guides spirituels sont des \u00eatres incorporels qui ont comme devoir de nous encourager et de nous guider dans la vie. Ils sont l\u00e0 pour nous aider \u00e0 r\u00e9aliser le contrat spirituelle qu\u2019on fait avec soi-m\u00eame avant d\u2019\u00eatre incarn\u00e9. Bear <\/strong>(Mosom Maskwa) is a Plains Cree\/Wolastoqiyik with 25 years in the visual arts field, who received formal art training at the <strong>New Brunswick College of Craft and Design<\/strong>, and was, the first aboriginal student to graduate from this institution, including <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">graduating with Honors<\/span>. He studied at the <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Saskatchewan Indian Federated College<\/span> (presently known as \u201c <strong>The First Nations University of Canada<\/strong>\u201d) .. in the Indian (First Nation) Art Department program, and then continued studies at the <strong>Nova Scotia College of Art and Design<\/strong>, Halifax NE. He holds a <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Bachelor of Education Degree<\/span> from <strong>University of New Brunswick<\/strong> and continued in <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Graduate Studies<\/span> in <strong>Critical Theory<\/strong> for 2 years at this facility.<\/p>\n<p>He has <strong>New Brunswick Teacher\u2019s Certification<\/strong>, having taught <strong>Native Art at the Fredericton High School<\/strong> for 10 years, and then as <strong>Director of Education<\/strong> for Ekpahaq First Nation, for another decade.<\/p>\n<p>He was acted Chairman, for the development of the <strong>New Brunswick Museum \u2018Wolastoqiyik\u2019<\/strong> website project.<\/p>\n<p>Bear continued his professional artist throughout, and has participated in numerous international, national &amp; regional group, and solo Art exhibitions. His focus in his art is on giving a contemporary interpretation to Aboriginal traditional spiritual beliefs, in his hand-sculpted masks, and in figure-forms of marble &amp; limestone. He is also involved in the practice and production of the basic \u2018traditional\u2019 Native American flute.<\/p>\n<p>Ned was awarded a 2006 fellowship from the <strong>Smithsonian Institute<\/strong> , New York City, U.S.<\/p>\n<p>Also, selected for the 2007 <strong>Gibraltar International Artist Residency<\/strong> at Toronto Island, Ontario. He was involved in a cooperative <strong>2010 Winter Olympics<\/strong> project on a free-standing public sculpture, placed in Whistler, BC. And more recently, was a four month 2012 solo exhibition at the Art Gallery Nova Scotia, Halifax <strong>Mosom Maskwa: Pawakan<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.pawakan.com\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">http:\/\/www.pawakan.com<\/span><\/a>[\/wpcol_1half]<br \/>\n[wpcol_1half_end id=\u00a0\u00bb\u00a0\u00bb class=\u00a0\u00bb\u00a0\u00bb style=\u00a0\u00bb\u00a0\u00bb]<em><strong>Pawakan&#8230;<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>a carving made into a living tree entitled \u00ab\u00a0pawakan\u00a0\u00bb (Spirit-Guide) ..all pawakan works are privy to names\/titles, that are exclusive to the current placement-owners. Spirit guides are incorporeal beings that are assigned to help encourage and\/or guide us through life problems.
