Michael Belmore est membre de L’Académie royale des arts du Canada et a obtenu un A.O.C.A.(Associate for the Ontario College of the Arts) en sculpture/installation du Ontario College of Art and Design en 1994. Belmore emploie une variété de médiums pour examiner notre utilisation de la technologie et comment celle-ci influence nos relations avec l’environnement et il utilise certains matériaux pour mieux miroiter notre marchandage de la nature.

Le travail de Belmore a été montré au Canada ainsi qu’à l’international, on le retrouve dans les collections permanentes de plusieurs institutions ainsi que dans bon nombre de collections privées. Quelques-unes de ses expositions les plus récentes comprennent : Shapeshifting : Transformations in Native American Art au Peabody Essex à Salem, MA, Close Encounters: The Next 500 Years, une exposition d’art autochtone contemporain à Winnipeg, MB ainsi que HIDE: Skin as Material and Metaphor au  National Museum of the American Indian – George Gustav Heye Centre à New York. Residual (Résiduel) est le reflet des sentiments de réconfort et de sécurité que représente pour nous le feu depuis le début des temps. De par l’utilisation de roches sculptées doublées de feuille de cuivre, l’œuvre se veut occasion de réflexion sur l’histoire soit personnelle ou partagée.

Michael Belmore is a member of the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts and graduated with an A.O.C.A. in sculpture/installation from Ontario College of Art & Design in 1994. Belmore employs a variety of media in order to investigate our use of technology and how it has affected our relationship to the environment. It is through his use of materials that Belmore brings into account how we view nature as commodity.

Belmore’s work has been exhibited nationally and internationally and is represented in the permanent collections of various institutions and numerous private collections. His most recent exhibitions include Shapeshifting: Transformations in Native American Art at the Peabody Essex in Salem, MA, Close Encounters: The Next 500 Years, an international exhibition of contemporary indigenous art in Winnipeg, MB and HIDE: Skin as Material and Metaphor at the National Museum of the American Indian – George Gustav Heye Centre in New York.[/wpcol_1half]
